Well truly enough New Zealand is the place to visit if you are hooked on big browns in gin clear water and 5 pound fish in average size. But NZ isn’t all about browns and bows. NZ offers some of the most exciting saltwater flyfishing there is to offer. This rather unknown side of NZ, took me and Peter on a 3 week hard adventure at sea with soar arms, broken rods, snapped lines, reels blown to pieces every day.
Hooking up with species as trevalley, snapper and kahawai is great sport on the flyrod, especially the trevalley showed to be a tough fighter and if you should hook up with on over 5 kg, you’d better hold a #14-15 rod in your hand! The main target though was the yellowtail kingfish. This ruthless fighter left me and Peter suffering from Kingfish Syndrome. One hook up after another with large kingfish and getting busted 9 out of 10 times, left us with a shattered mind, but we won some of the arm wrestling contests. Nikolai Mathiesen who guided us, is the only saltwater flyfishing guide who has specialized in targeting big kingfish, trevalley, snapper, makoshark and striped marlin. If you ever should come around NZ, don’t forget to give Nik a call.
The music in this video is the first single from the upcomming producer album by K-V 'Clap to this' featuring Mic Geronimo.
